At the beginning of 1967 in the UK , two acts released 7" singles of 98.6 . One by Welsh band The Bystanders and the other by US singer Keith. The Bystanders version of 98.6 peaked at no. 45 but Keith`s managed to reach number 24.
98.6 was the Bystanders only UK chart hit . Band featured Jerry Braden ( real name Lynn Mittel and now better known in Wales as Owen Money , comedian & radio braodcaster )

They released the following singles in the Sixties including their original version of Jesamine which became a smash hit for The Casuals in 1968 but which 6 months earlier had failed to chart for The Bystanders They split later in 1968 -

  • The Bystanders were a great live band who performed west coast type harmonies a la Beach Boys, Four Seasons , Association. great muscicians who went on to form The Man Band.

  • It's 11pm and I've been playing this version all day since 7am. I don't remember hearing this version before and I haven't been able to listen to anything else. I lost count how many times I heard it. It is a much better version!

  • i was the rodie for the bystanders in the sixtys and they must have been the hardest working band in the country we thought this record was the one but it wasnt to be

  • There is a beautiful rendition in Spanish by a group called Los Angeles.
