Mark Steyn on Danish TV: European elites drew wrong conclusion after WWII

Canadian Free Speech activist, publisher and writer Mark Steyn visited Denmark, to receive the Sappho Prize for Free Speech, and Dkr. 20,000 for his activities as an advocate for free speech.

Towards the end of the seven minute interview, Steyn mentions the obvious but forbidden notion:

Why isn't the European Culture strong enough to defend [itself against] this.

Steyn: I think, since the Second World War, and even since the First World War, European elites have not believed in them selves or their own people.

I think European elites drew the wrong conclusion at the end of the Second World War, when they said, 'never again', on the German death camps. They didn't really mean never again to standing up to intolerance and,..

They drew the wrong conclusion; they thought it meant rejecting nationalism, rejecting national identity, rejecting your own cultural inheritance.

And there's a huge hole in the heart off where European Identity ought to be.

@madsmadser Islam is a identity and that is why the forces of globalism wanted to erase it and at the same time using the immigrants to erase the identity of the euro countries anlong with propaganda (multikult). The fact that is army has been defeated has put everything in jeorpardy and that is why the "sane" part of the elite has a chance to regain control and recerse the immigration. @MrsNikkolas For instance only recently greece stated building a wall on the border and you haven´t even heard about it. The wall should be buit long ago but probably there would be a big uproar with the "leftists" screaming but there is nothing. The EU comission said they would not fund it but greece started the construction recently and France suppoted it. Thing are more complex is not llike all the elite is for this policies.

@madsmadser Stop focusing on the so call "leftists" or the ideologies. Are they the ones whoare in charge of the state? No they are just oportunists and useful idiots to try to shut down the oponents of the policies the elite is carrying.The elite itself is not a monolite there are diferent camps at play, the key is to make the "sane2 side to gain the uperhand. @MrsNikkolas The leftists think they can use the immigrants to achieve their goal, as the majority of immigrants vote red. But the dream of a "socialist utopia" is nothing compared to the will of the islamists, and the ones with the most extreme views will get the power. If the problem isn't solved quickly, it's not sure that it can be reverted for Europe. In only a few decades, immigrant children will be a majority in many places, and it will be almost impossible to deport all.

@MrsNikkolas The problem is that when leftists are cooperating with islamists to achieve their "earthly paradise", they forget the islamists want religious ruling, while leftists don't. The Iran revolution is a perfect example. Both secular liberal and socialist parties and Islamic parties worked together against the US-supported Monarch. But when the opposition got the power, their disagreements came to the surface, resulting in political persecution and execution.

@MrsNikkolas I know that Sharia law is a part of Islam, but immigrants bringing Sharia-law to the west is as wrong as Americans trying to force democracy on Muslim countries. Robert Spencer have said that the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is a completely failure because the root of anti-democratic views - Islam, still is present. He have also said that the only thing the west should hope for is that governments in the Muslim world doesn't persecute minorities, nothing else.

@madsmadser At first sight he appear to be but he makes it sound like the for the state to bring immigrants in is because the lack of nationalism. That may have some influence but the decision to open the bordersis taken by certain groups on the state with an agenda. If the forcces behid this are defeated militarily and Europe regain soveignt, this can be easily reverted. Not in the Anglos countries maybe but in the others yes. Defeat US-britain-israel.
