Renata Lamanda sings Charlotte in Werther at the Rome Opera House - Renata Lamanda canta Charlotte nel Werther al Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - Renata Lamanda chante Charlotte dans Werther à l'Opéra de Rome
She's not flat. I'm sitting here with the score in front of me with an electronic keyboard (which cannot go flat or sharp) and she is right on pitch. I think her voice is lovely. I don't know anything about her support from watching this--it may be that her characterization--as Charlotte is a reserved woman and trying to hold in all these feelings--gives that impression. The role is more dramatic but is sung by both lyric and dramatics in the U.S. And any mezzo can sing this aria.
Hey, there's a voice there no, question. I'm just arguing technique. Bigger voices can hide a lot. Sorry, but her production is too much "work". It would take me hours to elaborate on the technique so I'm just posting MY opinion and MY opinion is different than yours.
But she's not Berganza, now is she? She's not flat either. Further, what is a "pressed" high note? How do you know she's working too hard? Did she channel you for this performance? Ugh!
