  • Her rendition always makes me weep.

  • @SuperGetitgotitgood and to free blacks who would eventually move North and take the jobs from them. In 1863 many Irish in New York had enough and rioted against the Draft, It was the deadliest civil unrest in US History. Hundreds of people died and damage ran into millions of dollars. The mostly Irish rioters lynched blacks and were only put down when Regular Army and a Navy gun boat opened fire and dispersed the crowds, The song protested the Irish being used as Cannon Fodder in the War.

  • Great Song, being an amateur historian I looked up it's origins. In the mid-1800's Irish immigrants were at the bottom of the social chain in most large Northern Cities. When the Civil War broke out, many volunteered, Mostly for Patriotism and to prove they were good citizens. As the war drew on and the draft started the burden fell heavily on the poor Irish, who could not buy there way out. It was a matter of join or else. Many Irish saw that they were just going to war to rich North. cont.

  • ANOTHER GREAT PERFORMANCE by Ms. O'Connor!

  • If this doesn't give you chills........

I saw this show in dublin one of the best live shows i've ever been to.

  • There were 2 dates in dublin that year was this the first one? I was at the first one.

  • One tone deaf dislike. How sad for you.

  • This song makes me love it all, music, inspirational women, gentility, the irish diaspora and their historical struggle, folk songs, provincial cultures. and most of all GREAT great music. Doesn't hurt that her voice is angelic and haunting, Thank you!

America is always open to those that strive, and want more. I also expect more, our non-war hardened children have lost this. I look to the day that our conscious is again with what our forefathers were. I hate Politics. I love what our dead have done. I believe that ones own liberty will benefit themselves and all. Without gifts, without lobbyist!
