Holy cow. Davy Jones' passing reminded me of Fred Neil (preferred his version of Daydream Believer.) And i remember LOVING Paul Siebel - Woodsmoke and oranges?

I know Frandsen, Peter Mekeel & I grew up together--Siebel I produced for Elektra--small world!!

@1046rzac No kidding really, how cool is that...I got to meet Paul a few times as I know Erik Frandsen real well, but never got to know him as I wish I had I also met him because I was good friends with Peter Mekeel who backed Paul up for a good while did you know Pete..?

Fred taught so many how to play and accompany themselves on guitar from Bob Dylan to Steve Stills, Roger McGuinn, Gramm Parsons...and me I got to see him at the Elephant in Woodstock NY on the weekend he recorded his live Dolphins album I was like 17... I'd never seen people play acoustic guitars so well until that night...Fred Neil with Monte Dunn 2nd guitar, who also backed Karen Dalton, Happy Traum, and Bob Gibson all played that night..Fred was featured and of course played last..

@sunaru1 I'd only heard the Animals version - an album cut from 1966.

searched for a tribe called quest and somehow ended up here. amazing tune doe!
proved to be a perfect track for me and my dudes to continue passing around our l's.
Fred's version is more poignant : he was not into festive or hallucinogen drugs in California, like Jefferson Airplane ; he was badly into heroin. Fred is one of the REALLY GREAT songwriters, with Townes Van Zandt and Jackson C. Frank.
