What are the 2t and 4t settings and when do you use them? what is upslope and downslope? start amps and end amps? and preflow and postlow. When using an inverter tig machine with a torch switch and no foot pedal amperage control.

Foot pedals offer lots more amperage control but they are a pain if you are working on a ladder. Here is how the 2t and 4t switch positions work on an Everlast Powertig 250ex tig welder.

  • Grate video lots of knowledge, would you say the Everlast AC/DC inverter Tigs.. are

equally as good as Miller or Lincoln inverter Tigs

  • cant vouch for durability or customer service, but the arc is outstanding

  • I loved your comment about talking welding to your wife, it's like them talking to us about shoes were are just not wired to care.

  • Man, you are "friggin" awesome! The amount of welding knowledge you possess, with the god-given ability to articulate it, mixed with an honest sense of humor, makes you the ultimate instructor of this trade. I could listen to you all day. I feel like we should be paying you for your time. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

  • Jody been watching you for awhile. I am now starting to learn scratch tig run off my lincoln gxt. I am in the other life you talk about :) I am doing this for fun and so I can introduce my kids to a real skill. I have to learn it first... so your instruction will effect two generations. Thanks

  • @waveofthefuture2517 refreshed it. it work

  • its broken i cant watch anything after 57 sec.

  • Great videos. Thank you.

  • You, sir, are a master.

  • Last bit of Internet harassment, that method of scratch starting with a low current and then going to the full current is called 'lift tig'.

Not a lot of this matters at all for most guys. It's really for people who do commercial welding so they can do it around machinery controls without causing faults. E.g. imagine you're at an airport and manage to crash some critical bit of safety gear by welding next to it with HF on. People will be angry. :P

  • @fullboostturbo1 There are also a few sets that will allow you to scratch start the electrode, to avoid HF electrical noise, but the scratch current is low, so the electrode is less prone to contaminating.

  • @fullboostturbo1 I've not used the Everlast, but I believe that's the switch for selecting the mode you want to start welding by.

It used to always be scratch start, which mean possibly contaminating the tungsten. Then HF came along to start the torch off the work. Then people realised that in some environment (industrially / commercially), the HF interferers with local computer equipment (robotics etc). So a switch was added to go back to scratch if you want.

  • Great video!! Thanks.
