  • I'm not going to bother with all this factual shit.

You see it all over gymnastics movies, and I can't be bothered reading it, it's just a waste of time. What's fair is fair! Enjoy the video, and stop trying to outsmart people with your useless rubbish. Nobody actually gives a shit. Mary-Lou Retton was an amazing gymnast, and fully deserved the gold.

  • I've watched a lot of American women's gymnastics since 1992, but looking back to 1984, I have to say that I have never seen a better American woman gymnast than Mary Lou. Shannon Miller is my idol, and Carly Patterson represented us well, but Mary Lou possesses this quality that I'm trying in vain to name--charisma, personality, exuberance, excitement? Thank you so much for posting this documentary!

  • Does anyone else out there think Mary Lou is as cute as can possibly be?

  • @Kevindl1985 Yeah I know. I saw that too. Can't believe they didn't give her a 9.9 or 9.8.

  • Man judges gave out 10's like candy didn't they? Szabo had a hop on her beam dismount and recieved a 10.

  • Mu name is Mary Lou lol i so awesome and btw im in gymnastics and this is my bros account

  • Yes, she did. It's a little discouraging to read in places bitter fans sniping at Mary Lou, saying she "stole" the gold from Szabo. How? By being the better competitor and scoring a ten when she KNEW she HAD to? That's what being a good competitor means. She was the better gymnast that day. The fact that she scored a 2nd ten (her 2nd vault) just seals it. Mary Lou always had her head in the game. Maybe the Soviets would've won AA--but they weren't there, and that's their own fault. Who cares?

  • Both Cati and Mary Lou were at there very best that night!! It all comes down to a performance! Both girls gave it everything they had. That's what the Olympics is all about.Think about all the pressure they were under!! As for the Russia's not being there. They only hurt themselves and there Athletes by pulling out of the Olympics.

  • Heydizzle, where were you during the 1984 olympics?... were you even born yet? I was nine years old and remember that summer very well.

  • Thanks for posting the original Bud Greenspan clips--I've only ever seen the revised one that was released in early 2009 as part of "Bud Greenspan Remembers: The 1984 Los Angelos Olympics"!
