My first animation attempt! This video was shot with a point-and-shoot Canon A570IS (without a remote trigger!) and is comprised of nearly 2000 individual frames. The set was lit by 4 halogen lights through vellum diffusion screens and the camera white balance was custom set and locked for the duration of the photo shoot. The footage was shot and edited over a three week period in June.
This animation was a test run for a larger project called "Vlad's Clearing", which uses Anamalz(tm) creatures. Vlad is a cranky old bear who just wants to be left alone. He moves into a great uninhabited clearing in a dense forest, alone at last. His solitude is short-lived as other creatures invade his land.
There will be another test animation soon - I need to prototype making the characters talk and syncing up mouth movements with voice. That'll be fun. After that, I'll be doing the filming with an SLR and hopefully end up with production-quality stuff.
This video was recently featured by Russ Berrie and Anamalz at the Atlanta Toy Fair, and has been submitted to the Disposable Film Festival.
Special thanks to Anamalz for letting me use their product.
Really big thanks to Carleton Torpin for producing a tutorial dvd that shows average folk like me how to do this stuff!
