This video shows 382-rpm face milling of stainless steel at 300 mm/m (16 ipm) feedrate on a Makino a71 horizontal machining center. This machine is designed specifically for high volume production of vehicle components, and is capable of spindle speeds up to 10,000-rpm on the standard spindle.

Makinos spindle integration with the drive motors rotor reduces vibration during high-speed operation and increases acceleration/deceleration. Rapid spindle acceleration can reach top speed in just 2.4 seconds, reducing non-cut time for increased productivity. The machine's center trough quickly removes large chip volumes for enhanced reliability in continuous machining.

  • @johnstonebreaker Thank you for addressing this error. The a71 is capable of 10,000-rpm, however in this video the machine is running at 382-rpm with a feed of 400 mm/m (16 ipm). Thanks again.

  • If this is running at 10,000 RPM, why the slow feed rate? That has also got to be some very special SS if you want to get any tool life at those RPM's!
