Sad to see a documentary about this. Dont get me wrong, this club was awesome, but I'd much rather have seen Batcaves in every city all over the world. Today, people listening to goth are just people with "weird" music tastes.

film was made by bbc in 1983, before the word goth was ever used. It was a documentary on the then culturally important Batcave, the first club to really celebrate alternate dance music.

Glam and punk for sure but it goes way beyond Alice...what about Elvis, Lennon, Bolan, Bowie, Iggy, the Fugs, Screaming Lord Sutch, psychedelia, Bram Stoker, Theda Bara, B-movies, Bela Lugosi, the Stones, Warhol, porn...?

I seriously think that this is the real goth music, now "goths" listen to EBM and Industrial, Im not trashing Industrial but at the same time "goths" are forgetting their roots in music like post-punk or The Batcave scene. If you ask a goth bands they listen to now they wont say Bauhaus, Alien Sex Fiend, Specimen or Christian Death they would say Industrial.

The Hunger was such a long-winded film, although a good classic. As far as music goes - they don't make 'em like they used to!

We were doing a dress rehearsal, and I walked offstage and heard this voice say "Oi, you've got my shoes on." And I look around and it's David Bowie. 1983? Looks to me like they were attempting to rebuild the club seen at the start of the Bowie/Deneurve film The Hunger - which was central to everything?
