July 24th Lightning Storm (Slow-Motion Videos)

High-speed video of lightning from a thunderstorm that took place in Windsor, ON on Sunday, July 24th. The storm was at a perfect distance from my house to view the majority of the lightning strikes. Keep watching for more awesome lightning videos as the storm season continues...

Video was taken with my Casio EXILIM EX-FH20 high-speed digital camera at 210 & 420 FPS (7x & 14x slower than normal), with portions of the video slowed down even further using video editing software!!

The reason it looks like the bolt is striking the same place more than once is that for most lightning strikes, there are several pulses of energy that are sent between the earth and the storm clouds. What you are seeing are called "return strokes". Pretty cool stuff!!
