This is the fourth step in the reproduction process I use for making my jewelry. Here I have mixed up the mold compound and pour it in over the sprue trees. After the video stops, the molds are degassed in my Vacuum machine. I allow them to "boil" for 30 seconds usually before releasing the Vacuum. This insures there are no bubbles on the mold and that the fine details are transferred.

  • You don't use no-bubble, or vacuum?

  • @bearhedded I use both "vaccu-coat" to protect from bubbles and I degas it in my vacuum chamber. I guess I hadn't realized I left out the part about the Vaccu-coat. If you read the description it mentions the degassing process though. Thanks for the heads up on that!

  • Can you use plaster?

  • I don't think that would be a good idea. Depending on the specific type of plaster used, you could have a violent reaction. Investment mix is relatively inexpensive. If you info for where to purchase it, just let me know.

  • What is the mold compound made of or where can it be purchased? Would the compound work fine for casting aluminum? Looks like compound dissolves easily in the water?

    thanks
