I'm not surprised by this at all. A lot of people haven't even heard of Linux at all.
Windows is dominate because it's shoved down our throats and is intrenched in education. For example you go to any college or high school and they are taught to use M.S Office instead of any alternative. And they are always running some version of Windows (or Mac).
If Linux was given equal marketing attention and driver support I don't see why they wouldn't take at least 25% or MS's market share or more.

It seems as though MS Office is moving to be more web based. And if that's the case one day you'll be able to use Office for Linux.
It's only a matter of time before MS decides to do a web version of Office similar to what Google does with Google Docs.
With Windows 8 being a flop and Windows Blue (aka Windows 8.1) not changing anything consumers have been complaining about, there is a new opportunity for Open Source to move in.

It would take a bit more than 25% once the corporate world transitions to Linux for the desktop. But even Mac users agree that MS Office is the de facto office suite. I personally use Open Office, but I wouldn't feel shame transitioning to Word & Excel.

I found it to be an enjoyable experience, save for game troubles and downloading stuff. Thank you for your time and good day.

how to install a game from the cd or even from the internet (steam, origin). Which brings me to my next problem: tutorials. Many are useful, but some are years old (found one dating back to Gibbon), on different distros, require the rare paid software, etc. Some I can't read due to the Ubuntu forums saying I cant view them cause I dont have an account. It's a disappointment to beginners not being able to find anything about their situation. I worked around these problems and enjoyed Linux.

install packages from the internet, its a long process. Many games don't support Linux, you can find many free alternatives, but they are not as good and are rethemed. Wine and others allow you to use Windows games on Linux, but there are craptons of problems you might have, and some even make the game unplayable. However, those games are rare and the set up of Wine is amazing, with help from the command promt (I soon started using the promt rather than the Software Center). I still don't know

Cont from previous message.
I used to use Ubuntu, and occasionally Mint. I loved the look, but the software is not there. iPod users are screwed, no iTunes, it can be worked around, but iTunes is much simpler. Rythymbox is a alternative I believe, but not every distribution packages or even supports it. Hunting down on the internet is a bitch, too. Installing packages from the internet is such a pain, I used Linux around 2 years ago, back when Natty was still new. I only found out today how to

One problem with Linux is that there are over 100+ distributions, each with their own support, ease of use, software markets, etc. It's not a problem if you stick to mainstream distros but the beginning user will be overwhelmed with the amount of versions to choose from. Take Ubuntu, for example. There is the main OS, then many variations and descendants that one would have to choose from. That is their problem with marketing, user problems are different but tie together. cont into next msg
