Arne Quinze presented Les Jardins in the Abbatiale Saint-Ouen during Rouen Impressionnée, twenty-one works based on the Water Lilies Claude Monet painted in the backyard of his home in Giverny. The first time Arne Quinze laid his eyes on these paintings by Monet he was blown away by the theme, scale, use of colours and the light effects. These are "modernist" paintings adapted to Quinze's own specific style and language. Although he still paints with his severe brush strokes and splatters, a certain serenity is visible in his new works. It is almost a misty way of painting to leave his garden with its mysteries but also its silence. The paintings capture the light just to reveal it again to the person looking at the canvas. The subject of the gardens demand the use of restrained colors to bring out the peace and quietness they enclose.
