the condor runs out of san diego, in southern california, they offer open party trips or you can charter the boat, i work at a tackle shop so i got the hook ups on most boats

you really cant horse handle the rod and fish like that. One must firmly set the hook then hold the hook set with rod tip up and with tension maintained point the tip downward and reel in the line quick- then again gently but firmly pull up and gain some line then repeat downward movement while reeling in quickly. this is the surest way to land your dinner.
Nice gaffing job by the boat mate- any tip ?
