@Zergcerebrates South Vietnam inherits sovereignty over Parcel Islands and Spratly Islands from France. And the South Vietnam's proclamation of its sovereignty over these islands had no opposition from 51 countries in San Francisco, 1951.

China signed with South Vietnam and North Vietnam the Geneva Accord 1954 that recognizes Vietnam's sovereignty over Parcel Islands and Spratly Islands.

The united Vietnam's Government after 1975 has the right to inherit these islands from South Vietnam.

To transfer ownership of Vietnam's land to other countries, according to Vietnam's constitution, the decision must be approved by the National Assembly of Vietnam and signed by Vietnam's president (or on behalf of the president). This letter does not has any of these things.

You said exactly. China takes advantage of this diplomatic note to illegally claim Paracels and Spratlys. This diplomatic note is just a friendly action from North Vietnam at that time. In 1958, Vietnam was divided; the bloody war was coming and North Vietnam saw China as its friend and ally. However, China had already had evil intentions before, so they took every chance to execute their plan to invade Paracel Islands and Spratly Island. Shame to this so called ally.

ATTENTION: This 1958 diplomatic note says: "Vietnam acknowledges the waters 12 nautical miles off China seashore belongs to China". However, Parcel Islands are 230 nautical miles off China seashore. Therefore, Vietnam's prime minister has NEVER RECOGNIZED China's sovereignty over Parcel Islands.

As for Macau it was not taken, but given. Portugal gave land rents to China to use Macau (go read history). Opium was sold by the British not the French! There will be no such punishments from the UN, besides you know who contributes to the largest peacekeeping force for the UN? Yes, the Chinese and simply put no country on earth today will risk going to war with the Chinese. The voice must also be raised that the Vietnam was just a small inland country called DaiViet in the 10th century and then expanded to swallow up Champa Kingdom, Lao territory, and the Khmer territory and islands. Spratley islands are never of DaiViet but of the China since time of old. Even now Vietnam still illegally possess Cambodia's islands and now Vietnam wants to steal China's islands, but it will not work. Vietnam even stole the island from the Philipines.
