The COMPLETE Ken Russell 'Song of Summer' circa 1968. From the BBC Monitor/Omnibus series. This is a classic portrayal of the most incredibly moving story; bound by an unlikely yet most creative partnership, in the history of music. That is of the composer Frederick Delius and his modest amanuensis Eric Fenby, This lovely production by no other than the very master of cinematography the late Ken Russell.

  • An undoubted masterpiece - in this film everything came together & was perfectly in balance.

I think one sees right to Ken Russell's heart .

    Thanks for this upload.

  • @PIPZZZ02 I am sure this was his favourite film. He was due to attend a round table discussion following a screening at The Royal Festival Hall London on 29th January. He is profoundly missed and I hope that Song of Summer will be one of his greatest and enduring legacy Thank You so much for your valuable feedback, much appreciated.

  • Thank you SO much for posting this! I have been a fan of Russell's since I saw the Devils as a student but had never seen this. Recently also saw the Strauss film for the first time. It's crazy and wonderful, but the Delius film is so inspiring and moving!! Two genii meet each other and Fenby is the agent for both!!! And as an Australian, I love the Percy Grainger appearance!

  • @GCC53 Thank you for your response to this video - In my own view it was Ken Russell's best He worked closely with Eric Fenby and this certainly gave this brilliant portrayal of Delius' later life a great deal of integrity. Percy Grainger's appearance lifts the whole thing to yet another level!!! I am so glad this video is appreciated and thank you for taking the time to post a comment.

    Best Wishes.....

  • Thank you for uploading this. I was at the Festival Hall on the 29th January for the Delius Anniversary Concert and this film in the Queen Elizabeth Hall after the concert. Both very memorable.
