41. Reply to a Brother Who Asked Instruction On Leading the Anchoritic Life
A reading of the Spiritual Instructions of Saint Seraphim of Sarov. Saint Seraphim (1759, Kursk -1833, Sarov) is one of the most renowned Russian monks and mystics in the Orthodox Church. Generally considered the greatest of the 19th century elders, he is remembered for extending the monastic teachings of contemplation, theoria and self-denial to the layperson, and taught that the purpose of the Christian life was to acquire the Holy Spirit. Nicholas Motovilov, wrote most of what we know about him today. Saint Seraphim was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1903.
"Acquire a peaceful spirit, and thousands around you will be saved." ~St. Seraphim
These readings are from Vol.1 of the Little Russian Philokalia published by the St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood.
