BERNIE CUMMINS(1900 Akron - 1986 Palm Beach, USA). He is one of the former boxers, lead to a big band. He played the drums & had the looks that put his band on the map as early as 1919. He enjoyed lucrative recording contracts long before it was "down by law" . His band recorded frequently for such labels as Gennett, Brunswick, Columbia, Victor, Vocalion, Bluebird and Decca. The band was also well noted for their live performances. Among the most important engagements were the Biltmore Hotel in New York, the Hotel New Yorker and the Aragon, Trianon, Blackstone and Edgewater Beach Hotel all in Chicago. Over the years the band also featured Belle Mann, Dorothy Crane and the Sophisticates, and Scottee Marsh.

My mom, Geraldine Lapping Marrin, (Jerry Lang), a member of the Sophisticates trio, sang with the New Yorkers in the mid to late 1930's. Great jazz and dance bank. I ran into Rocky, their drummer, in San Francisco in the mid 1990s. The Sophisticates, a Minneapolis Marshall High School musical group were contemporaries of the Minneapolis North High School group, the Andrew Sisters. These two groups performed live on WCCO Radio in the early 1930s. Thanks for sharing their great music.

Walter's my daddy... you have no idea how much this means to me to hear and see this... thanks for helping not only his baby girl to have access to this, but his grandbabies and greatgrandbabies...

Nice to hear another version of this tune besides the Paul Whiteman version with Bix. And this one has a vocal too unlike the Whiteman version so I can hear the words. Thanks
