1997年香港回归在即，英国不甘心其殖民统治在全球范围的衰败，为了显示其在远东原殖民地的军事存在，组织了一支名为 Ocean Wave 97 Task Group 的庞大特混编队一路耀武扬威来到东亚。该编队于1997年1月13日从英国普茨茅斯港启航，经停法国、西班牙、意大利、希腊、埃及和以色列等国港口，过直布罗陀、吉布提，­并正式访问了土耳其、印度、马尔代夫、泰国、文莱、印度尼西亚、韩国、新西兰、马耳他等国。编队于6月下旬抵达南中国海中国海域附近，派出 HMY Britannia 不列颠尼亚号皇家游轮、HMS Chatham 查塔姆号导弹护卫舰和 RFA Sir Percivale 珀西瓦尔爵士号登陆舰三艘舰船驶入香港海域参与政权移交和英方撤离香港等活动。交还香港政权后，英国王储查尔斯和港督彭定康及家眷和其他英方高级人员乘坐 HMY Britannia 不列颠尼亚号皇家游轮在护卫编队旗舰 HMS Chatham 查塔姆号导弹护卫舰和原驻港英军的三艘孔雀级巡逻艇 HMS Peacock P239 孔雀号、HMS Plover P240 千鸟号、HMS Starling P241 八哥号的护卫下黯然离开香港，驶往菲律宾进行访问，并将三艘孔雀级巡逻艇出售给菲律宾。RFA Sir Percivale 珀西瓦尔爵士号登陆舰搭载了剩余英方人员成为最后一艘离港的英国皇家海军军舰。特混编队在完成了一系列访问和军事演习后于1997年8月28日返回英国普茨茅斯港。

This was truely one of the saddest days in history, and most definitely the saddest day in Hong Kong history. Watching this again is literally making me go into tears. We hate the People's Republic of China! We Hong Kongers want Great Britain back!!! We LOVE OUR QUEEN AND COUNTRY!!!

God Save the Queen and may God one day please save Hong Kong.

香港回归最好看的就是这段鬼佬乘船离开时，别的都多余，浪费时间­。该走就走，说那么多无聊没用的干嘛，还演奏英国人的乐曲，无­聊。谁心里不明白偷了人家东西被迫还给人家的滋味。。十分钟香港­就回归了。。中共厉害。。
