Here's another real 'oldie' from my collection of 78's. Recorded at the Gennett studios (I think) in 1923. The line-up is :- Joe "King" Oliver; 1st. cornet. Louis Armstrong; 2nd cor. Honore Dutrey; tmb. Johnny Dodds; clt. Bill Johnson; bss. Lil Hardin/Armstrong; pno. Baby Dodds; dms. and Johnny St.Cyr; bjo.
Due to the interest shown, and the number of views, generated by my previous posting of this band, I thought another might be appreciated.

  • Hello, This style is known as "classic jazzwhich is another term for the music that was recorde by the New Orleans greats that migrated to Chicago.

New Orleans jazz would be the music of Bunk Johnson, George Lewis, Kid Thomas etc which had a renaissance after Bill Russell (later of American Music), recorded Bunk in the 40's. This sparked a whole new movent in traditional jazz, including the "trad boom" in the UK..

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Kevin

  • Lovely quarter note triplets in the trumpet, and bass lines on the banjo!

  • Classic King Oliver along with the greats of New Orleans jazzmen. Johnny Dodds at his very best!! Thank you so much for taking me back to where I always wanted to be - playing in New Orleans and learning from the best. J
