Speaking as a retired cop this show depicted the job of a cop better than any other show that has ever been on TV. The ups and downs, cops taking the job home with them...It's a jungle out there.

shame they never released the whole thing on dvd... you can only get the first two series. hint hint if any big shot is reading this - id buy the box set!!

Sgt. Phillip Esterhaus--one of the best characters on TV. Michael Conrad made him a real person to care about and to love to watch every week. The whole cast of Hill Street Blues was just fabulous--such high caliber actors who made their individual characters so unique and genuine. It was a continuing story from week to week--telling this story revolving around the relationships and the job they were so good at doing. I miss real TV!!!

I knew he passed but I didn't realize that long ago. Where are the real men in society today? I liked this guy because he was tough, intelligent and cultured. You don't see that presented in the infotainment media today.
