If you are a Christian, thank you for watching this video. In the next few minutes you will come to understand how your support of Christianity is making child abuse possible.

One aspect of fundamentalist insanity is vividly illustrated in this quote, from a book by James Dobson called "Dare to Discipline". If you are a casual Christian, you may have never heard of James Dobson. He is a powerful Fundamentalist leader with a powerful organization and millions of followers. Here is what James Dobson has to say about beating your children:

"The spanking should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the child to cry genuinely."

Striking a child, and beating a child, is insanity. How do we know this? Simply by replacing the word "child" with a variety of other words, we can clearly understand the insanity of what James Dobson is saying.

"The beating should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the woman to cry genuinely..."

That is insane, isn't it?

"The beating should be of sufficient magnitude to cause your spouse to cry genuinely..."

You would be arrested for striking your spouse, and rightly so.

"The beating should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the dog to cry genuinely..."

Also insane.

"The beating should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the puppy to cry genuinely..."

It doesn't get any better when you beat a puppy, does it? No, it gets more insane. Yet James Dobson advocates beating your own child.

Beating a person - any person - is wrong. Any normal, intelligent person knows that. Beating a defenseless child is insanity. In most sane places, body blows like this would be seen and charged as assault. But Fundamentalist Christians and Evangelical Christians see the beating of children as something good that is commanded by their God. And unfortunately, Christians are a majority in America, so their religious child abuse goes unchallenged. And you see many other examples of Evangelical child abuse. For example, children are routinely denied medical care by Fundamentalist parents.

Are you a casual Christian? Those of us who are sane and rational beg you - please abandon the insanity of Christianity. If you will take any time at all to think about your Christian faith, you will be able to see that God is imaginary The people who follow this imaginary God are, in many cases, quite violent, as demonstrated above. They also tend to be racist, homophobic and anti-science. They are amazingly superstitious, to the point where it is an embarrassment for our nation. Please take the time to read things like Whywontgodhealamputees.com. Give up the delusion of religion and become a rational, thinking adult.

When you, and millions of casual Christians like you, abandon Christianity, Christians will become a minority. The insanity of Fundamentalist Christians and Evangelical Christians will lose the safe harbor that you give it. Our society will be a better place, and millions of abused children will thank you.

  • Changing the words spanking to beating doesn't make your argument valid. They don't even mean the same in the dictionary. You purposely changed the words and therefore your creditworthiness dropped like a rock.

  • Spanking and beating only mean the same thing to idiots and people with an agenda that don't care about being correct. I spank my wife but I don't beat her. I would beat a robber but I wouldn't spank one. I hate theists as much as the next guy, but this is dumb. Let’s not confuse parents who care about their children who slap their hand away from a hot stove and those who throw them down the stairs and lock them in the basement. You are so blind you can't see the difference.

  • "Imagine there's no Heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one" -John Lennon | Imagine
  • @redolentofmark Spanking = Beating. What exactly do you think "beating" means?

  • my mum smacked me when i was bad and it done nothing to me or my brothers! i won't beat my children when i have them but its not "wrong" to smack them as long as it's not obsessive

  • i'm surprised.... for many thousand years Jesuit Orde Evangelist was abusing the children.... when they claimed blessed father

  • @redolentofmark for a child there is no difference between a beating and a spanking...

even if you only spank a child it hurts it, not only the physical but the mental abuse causes most people to suffer of it for the rest of their lifes.

  • This is intellectual dishonesty. He changes the word "spanking" (1:18) to "beating" (1:46)

  • Hard to get people to be open minded. Some times yah wanna crack open there skull. But that's for for religious people they want control. War war War. Love your neighbor for what they are. Peace out.

  • @PeterRabbitTV In the end, I believe it's all a choice an individual makes that shouldn't have to be influenced by others.
