On Saturday 13th July 2008 the good people of Russell once again proved to the world that the main thing standing in the way of human flight is common sense. Encouraged by rising fuel prices, our aviators have shown aircraft designed to create a zero carbon footprint, and demonstrate their alternative to huge and costly airfields. It took a little village at the top end of New Zealand to do it - Boeing, Airbus and Richard Branson have expressed interest in our design concepts, but we're holding out for Michael Jackson !
And oh yeh, at this stage it looks like Birdman raised well over $1000 for our local pre-school.

I usually make my trip to Russell during summer, but this is enough to make me come back in the winter! Love to the Bay of Islands! - Dana

What a fun place to live - I think I'll move to Russell. Couldn't help notice that it's winter in NZ - everyone dressed for cold weather and still jumping into the ocean. AND....it's all adults. Where do I sign up?
