You've talked about teaching a course on World Religions in public schools. What do you think that would accomplish? - An interview with Daniel Dennett at the Future of Science Conference in Venice, Italy September 2006.

  • Are you posting the quran here?

Like the bible and torah, it is stupid.

  • I think Dan Dennett has a great idea - religious education did not hurt me, I was exposed to Buddhism and raised Catholic and I became a non-theist with a strong interest in cultural materialism (mainly classical philosophy concentrating on Epicureanism) these days. When I was growing up, the real danger was people who didn't look beyond their own religion to learn to tolerate other religions and understand the good in scientific education.

  • I agree with you Dan for once. Your unnecessary extensive theory of consciousness however, not so much. It would seem that certain religion flourish in a certain type of cultures. A good study of this would be cultures related to religious variables.

  • Very good point. I am not an atheist, but this is awesome. I was raised in a slavic baptist family and all religions were bashed (even other christian denominations) and education on other religions was denied, labeled as evil or "devil". I feel bad for kids who are brainwashed, not educated. Education is light.

  • Religious education is mandatory here in the UK, though its content varies from school to school. When I was growing up in Canada, World Religions was taught in my Catholic school, but not until the end of high school, long after we'd already been thoroughly indoctrinated. . .

  • likening religions to bacteria.. probably isnt a good way to relate to your antagonists

  • Idiopathically elliptical hardly suffuses the inner recesses

  • What it would accomplish is that people would see how easy it is to put pen to paper, make grandiose claims, and have unskeptical masses believe them.

  • common Entropy56, stop entertaining idiots...

we got awful lot of stuffs to learn & understand

these Quran guys 'know_them_all_already' leave them alone !

  • That was a different message. Best thing you have are typos...a last resort for people for people who have nothing worthwhile to say. :-)
