Refueling this baby in the air was a complicated operation, which had to be done up to 5 times per mission. From it's cruising altitude and speed of Mach 3.5+, it took approximately 320km to slow and descend the Blackbird to meet the tanker. During the decent, precise adjustments had to be continuously made to the air intakes to prevent the engines from stalling.
These days all that stuff would all be handled by computers, but it wasn't back then.

1) The YF-12 was an interceptor, you're thinking of the SR-71.
2) Those are AIM-47s.
3) I assume by ace you mean skilled pilot as there are no active Russian pilots with 5+ confirmed kills.
