0800030 - Project Sedan - 1962 - 7:00 - Color - Project Sedan, a Plowshare Program test, that promoted the application of nuclear explosives to develop peaceful uses for atomic energy, was conducted at the Nevada Test Site on July 6, 1962. This cratering explosion, with a yield of 104 kilotons, displaced 12 million tons of earth and formed a 1,280-foot-diameter by 320-foot-deep crater in the desert floor, releasing seismic energy equivalent to 4.75 on the Richter Scale. The purpose of the Sedan explosion was to determine if nuclear devices could be used as cratering or earth moving mechanisms.

America dropped 2 bombs on Japan and 1,021 on Nevada. I guess it isn't surprising that St. George, Utah has more background radiation and unburned Plutonium than ground zero of both Nagasaki and Hiroshima. All I can say is "WTF?" Is anyone with me on this?

That's not the site of the sedan test..... The Sedan Project test was done at the Nevada Test Site. The coordinates of the location of the sedan test is 37.176944, -116.046667 look it up on google maps satellite view, pretty huge crater.

You lie. In your supposed "safe tests" you failed to mention how by doing this you are killing massive amounts of men, women, and children worldwide because every time you have a nuclear explosion you are sending highly radioactive particals into the air that can be carried world wide by winds that only add to the already bad radioactive status at that time.

Later in Plowshare, Operation Gasbuggy in New Mexico attempted to use such a device to free deep natural gas deposits from the rock. The freed gas was so highly irradiated as to be unusable & the project deemed a failure. A monument marking the site of the experiment can be easily located & visited today by following "The Atomic Tourist" route.

Addendum - Project Sedan is under Operation Storax, next to the last of the atmospheric tests before Partial Test Ban Treaty in 1963 forced all nuclear testing underground in the USA.
