PEPE SINGING TO THE MUSIC

Pepe the red howler monkey from Amazon Shelter giving a solo concert to the children from the local community of Isuyama at the Center of Rehabilitation and Conservation for Wild Animals (CRCAS). These monkeys posses the strongest and loudest call of all terrestrial animals making a sound that can be heard from up to 4,8 km. of distance.

This is sad. Pepe was not caged & lived above my hotel in Tarapoto. I hope that they allow him more freedom when not at this place. He is the handsomest red howler that I have ever seen. I hope you treasure this opportunity.

I was fortunate to be at Inotawa Lodge a couple of years ago and early one morning I went out to the porch where the hammocks were and sat in the foggy darkness on a bench. I heard a large creature moving in the rafters above me. Suddenly Pepe plopped himself down into my arms. He, too, was cold that morning and we snuggled together until my guide called me to breakfast. I am glad to see Pepe again.
