ATR are good for training to play at fast tempos (200/215). At least, everything which is not death metal-fast. Since no one ever covered Relinquish, which in my opinion is one of the most underrated ATR songs, here it goes, a random take so it is not tight as my teacher (Hour of Penance's drummer, Mauro Mercurio) would like it to be.. ;P

Recording mics:

3 x JTS Beta 56 on Toms
1 x Shure SM 57 on Snare drum
2 x Axis E-Kit Triggers mounted on Axis A-L Longboards on bass drums

When I'll get an audio interface with more inputs, I will mic cymbals, for now I stick with the bleed which comes through the other mics, luckily cymbals sometimes are loud enough =)

If anyone wants to know more details on the recording, please PM me =)

  • Yes, it's talented but I hate how everyone thinks that being able to play a double kicker is soo unreal. Watch Danny Carrey from Tool if you want to see real talent.

  • @SpRoAtMEALWiThMiLk

Yes, it is absolutely true what you say. Generally people generally are easily impressed by double kicks really much more than a good hand speed (and I'm not really good at double bass, I may be kinda solid but other guys impress me much more than myself in that sense :)), I still personally do not understand why. You should check some vids from David Folchitto, Mauro Mercurio (speaking of really good Italian metal drummers) if you like metal drumming. And, of course, Tool.

  • Isn't your snare a little quiet compared to your bass? Btw, do a Here Comes The Kraken cover :o

  • @xyugi0007 I LIKE MY BASS DRUM MOTHERFUCKING LOUD. 8) Btw, I leave Death Metal stuff to Mauro....

  • @xthaorx how did u become that guys student and where are you from? Also would you ever cover any recent a7x portnoy stuff?

  • PERFECT!!!!!!

  • @SpRoAtMEALWiThMiLk I agree, my brother in law is always impressed no matter what song it is. trivium, ATR, oh sleeper, devildriver, and all the other same screamo bands he listens to every day. Im a drummer too, he tries to push my limits to what songs he wants to cover, like trivium. Im more of a drummer who plays styles like coheed and cambria, and alien ant farm you know. I only do eighth notes on the double bass, depending on the tempo then i do sixteenths.

  • @slutonline - your actually wrong, sorry to say it, im sure youl be mad but playing triggers actually intensifies skill because every little hit and mistake is picked up so you have to play perfect or dont play at all - i know this first hand - sorry if i pissed you off but I had to reply - cheers mate - shawn

  • Personnaly i'm always impressed with double kickers now matter how fast, Prolly because I can't drum.

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

u have really nice skill ;)

  • EPIC. WIN.

  • @xthaorx IMPLYING HERE COMES THE KRAKEN IS DEATH METAL

  • Your kick drum sounds godly! Is there anyway you can send me a sample of it?

  • your bassdrum skills are handicaped because u r using triggers, try to practice without them, use more power when playing....
