It was been five years since October 13, 2006 when the Deaf Community made a big impact with social change, and recurring themes been observed in five years. What may happen to us in next five years?
Yup, amazing how technology impacts the communities (not only deaf community) and yes, yes, the issues are just time-old, from the beginning of human races... majorities vs minorities. No need for pessimism nor optimism... just the way it is.
Folks who want to discredit and attack certain modalities, entities, organizations, and so on are going to be speeding things up where things are not going to be in their favor. I recently saw a video of unity, wow. You guys should check it out. It's on one of Mike McConnell's post about hearing loss organizations. Saw American School for the Deaf working with other non deaf centric orgs for Walk4hearing. unity is possible. Accept and respect all.
Unity via diversity will help change things. We need to accept that there are different ways to be deaf. There are no one answer for raising a deaf child. Every school need to respect wishes/choices by child/parent. We will go a long way doing this. We need to also respect all language and all communication options. Until then, we'll see the same ole thing. Stem Cell will put an end to all the crap, oh yea.
Well well well... as always, I find your vlog meaningful. At the present time, I can tell you what my dear friend told me which echos Patrick Henry's speech way back in 1775: "Give me liberty or give me death!" applies to our struggle to be fully integrated into the society, even more so, an utopian society. The root of all problem is the attitude at primordial level in all humanity. That's gotta go... maybe stem cell would help us to pacify, eh? -smirk- Just my 2 cents.
Unfortunately, I'm pessimistic that 5 years from now will be more of the same, or worse, because the sad fact is, we just can't get ourselves together enough to agree on the issues and present them as a solid front in order to encourage a positive change in the Deaf direction.
I would hope and love to see a follow up on this vlog in 5 years! =oD
Best wishes to you Amy! I love watching your videos, they are wonderful! Keep them coming!

@trinitysite72 Yup, you said it... from premordial level... the Darwinist need for superiority/inferiority in societies.

@DrDonGCSUS No kidding, Uncle Don. I doubt it'd happen any time soon to have a true "collectivism."
