Pronouncing Yuffie the way you are makes sense because there is a double 'f'.

People who pronounce it yooffee can't read english. It would be spelled Yufie if it was pronounced that way.

Avanlache was explained as a group that was made before and was distroyed but was renade by barret it explains it in FFVII before the crisis
