Ecumenical Celebration at Westminster Abbey, City of Westminster, 17 September 2010

O Thou who camest from above
Words: Charles Wesley
Music: Samuel Sebastian Wesley
Sung by: Westminster Abbey Choir

Text:
O Thou who camest from above,
the pure celestial fire to impart,
kindle a flame of sacred love
on the mean altar of my heart.

There let it for thy glory burn
with inextinguishable blaze,
and trembling to its source return
in humble prayer, and fervent praise.

Jesus, confirm my heart's desire
to work, and speak, and think for thee;
still let me guard the holy fire,
and still stir up thy gift in me.

Ready for all thy perfect will,
my acts of faith and love repeat,
till death thy endless mercies seal,
and make my sacrifice complete.

  • The next time our catholic friends have a council I hope that they declare that people have to sing louder.

  • @02Blackbeard their not singing because their forign and the words are English! How would you be singing along to a hymn in german or italian or dutch if you did'nt speak it!!

  • @idle44 Apostate.

  • @TheCrazyCello They are not singing because Mary is not mentioned in the hymn.

  • @FlyerRan The Pope is the most infamous fraud.

  • "..there let it for thy glory burn with inextinguishable blaze.."

  • this joins the genre of one of the best out there on youtube!

  • @TheCrazyCello I have no idea why some Catholics don't appear to sing, in the case of this video perhaps they did not know the words, the Cardinal was singing however.

All I do know is that singing can lift your spirits especially if it is a rousing hymn like this one.
