When looking at this video, you might think that the world's greatest ballerina came to take a class at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet with the regular students. You would be wrong, because the girl in this video is not a principal ballerina for the Mariinsky or Bolshoi, but was taking a 5th year class with her fellow Vaganova 5th year students.
For a ballerina, whose technique is secondary to all her amazing gifts, such as amazing arms, flowing upper body and expressive face, the two exercises in this video, demonstrate a student, like nobody has ever seen. The opening pirouette from a grand plie is beyond anyone's understanding. She makes a complete pirouette, which is nothing special, but she finishes on balance and maintains that balance for a long period, with a perfect passe to a develop front, all on balance, until the exercise forces her raised leg to pass through first position, which forces her to lower her heel that has been balancing from the beginning of her pirouette. She never takes that heel down, until the exercise forces her to pass through first position.
There are many great videos of great ballerinas doing amazing things, but seeing what this 5th year student does, is beyond anything any of the great YouTube videos show. This 5th year student would have looked in the right place, taking class with the 10 greatest ballerinas in the world, and she would have been better than almost everyone in that class.

  • Did her mother write the title and description?

  • @dojustice2009 I wrote the title. Her mother would never write that title.

  • @russianballetvideo and how do you know her?

  • @dojustice2009 I know both mother and daughter and they know me.

  • so question, how old is she here, and about how tall do you think she is?

  • @balletlover157 She was 15 and is now 5 foot 6 inches

  • Maybe I'm disappointed because of the hyperbolic title. A good student, yes, but "beyond anyone's imagination?" Not by a long shot.

  • Yeah, she's really amazing, but all those superlatives about one person just don't work. You can't call any one single person the best...

  • @damai82 Thank you very much for the information on the teacher who has taught the two best Vaganova students, Yulia Stepanova and Alina Somova.

  • @russianballetvideo Safronova is still in school - she gave up to take girls classes (to be honest they kick her out ), but she is still teaching on pedagogical faculty

  • And after that very long description you don't even tell us her name. It's only fair for her if you add that to the description.

  • She is fabulous. Just beautiful. During the first pointe combination you can tell that one side is better than the other though. I have the same problem. So frustrating!
