@TranspersonalEffects
In moments of great suffering I have been automatically ejected from thinking, I suddenly realise that I should let go of obsessive thoughts and emotions about past, present and future and just accept the now the very present moment. Through this I feel very peaceful likewise I gain great wisdom, insight and inspiration
I find mantra difficult to do. Trouble is I can't seem to get aware manually, I have had these experiences only automatically through suffering. Any help?

@thrombox The most effective way to return to the present moment, for me, is to focus my awareness on the feeling of aliveness in my body, or the slight pauses at the top and bottom of the cycle of my breath. When a thought comes, don't push it away--simply return your awareness to those sensations.

of all these different meditations, which would be easiest for someone who has never done meditation (myself) to retrieve the meditative state?

I think the best one for your life, long term, is the awareness meditation.
Most of the time, we go around on autopilot and let our ingrained automatic reactions take care of life. When you practice being fully aware, you bring control of your thoughts and actions back into your conscious state. Buddhism calls it "beginners mind," because it's often the state of mind you have when you are trying something new--full of awareness, observation, and careful action.

@kanaloablue74 Try bringing your awareness into the aliveness in your hands.
