My great-grandmother could have shopped at St Lawrence market when she was a little girl, if she had of grown up in the bustling city of Toronto, but she didn't so she missed out on all the fun that you can have at the market. But it's not only a traditional fruit and veggie -- meat and fish marketplace that the St. Lawrence Market offers, there are plenty of other great things to do there as well.

Grabbing a casual lunch or a delicious snack and enjoying one of the many buskers that ply their talents in the market is a great way to spend a leisurely afternoon. There is also the Market Gallery, which opened in 1979, that always hosts exhibits of talented Torontonian artists or relevant historical exhibits. Then, you have the Market Kitchen that is a cooking school and event venue.

The St Lawrence Market has come a long way over the last 200 years! First started back in 1803 as an open-air market on Saturday mornings, a permanent wooden building was then constructed in 1820 and then a decade later that was finally replaced by a brick building in 1831. Since then, there has been a bustling market happening every day of the week all year long for all to enjoy. And people do enjoy the market, in the multitudes! A Mecca for locals and tourists alike there is always a rainbow of skin colors and cultures bustling around the stalls and shops in the market.

The GCAT crew arrived early on a rainy Saturday morning but the overcast weather had no effect on the fun we had in the market. Stuffing ourselves with delicious food, buying bagfuls of souvenirs and having great conversations with the workers and patrons at the market we couldn't have had a better time. For us it felt like the sun was shining bright!

It's how you feel when you visit the market!
