That famous duo in a very crisp rendition of a nonsense song..According to some notes this is one of the rarest of all Noble/Bowlly records which is very surprising as the playing and singing is excellent.
This was recorded in the pre Abbey Road days, at the Small Queens Hall (destroyed in an air raid in WW2) in upper Regents Street.
.The first photo is a publicity shot of the band away from their studios on their only tour in The Netherlands. The band were filmed playing and Al singing.
.It comprised mainly of Lew Stone's Band who were in summer recess and a couple from Carroll Gibbons and a couple from Ambrose..
Lew Davis trombone also made a recently discovered home movie of the trip
.A rather regrettable fact about Al Bowlly is that no film exists in Britain of Al singing with a dance band accompniment.. It is all solo stuff..
In the film clip of the Netherlands tour, the band plays, but as soon as Al sings they stop.
.The British Dance Bands had a habit of making excellent renditions of banal nonsense songs and this is a good example of that genre.
l live very close to the Abbey Rd Studios and l feel like strangling all those Beatles fans as there is no recognition for this wonderful band..
