Strindberg in Minsk

Strindberg in Minsk: Poetry and Musik. This is the title of the project carried out by the Centre for Swedish Studies in Minsk with a huge artistic input by vj and electronic musician Vladislav Buben. The film demonstrates the result of the project -- a concert held at the contemporary art gallery Y in Minsk on April 19, 2012 and beyond.

The participants of translation seminars at CSS have translated the poetry of the prominent Swedish author August Strindberg under supervision of prominent experts. In the video you can watch and hear them read both the original versions and their translations. The concept of the video was carefully worked out by Vladislav Buben. He worked with the translator's associations with the poetry, its content, Strindberg's epoch as well as the poems' titles. The translators cut the titles and mix the letters creating new metaphors but again getting back to the original meaning. Vladislav Buben's own electronic music as well as Nasta Labada's photos complete your impression about the unknown side of Strindberg's creativity -- his romantic poetry. Dedicated to 100-year-anniversary of Strindberg's death celebrated by the initiative of Swedish institute.
