This Probation Orange belt drill teaches and drills the defence of kicks from SIX kicks and three angles being in order (for the defender) low left, high left, low right, high right and straight on (front). It also drills the execution of five variations of the roundhouse kick as well as push kick off the rear leg. The kicks are roundhouse right to the legs, roundhouse right to the body (or head) depending on the student's flexibility, inside leg roundhouse kick, step-up roundhouse left to the rear leg, stationary or step-up left roundhouse to the body (or head) depending on your reach and flexibiltiy and push kick, this time off the rear leg. The defences are left check low, left check middle / high with the Thai 'wall' block, cross check, right check low, right check middle / high with the Thai 'wall' block, and a deflection which sets up a big right hand. Depending on the height of the kick the deflection can be low or high. The person left of the instructor kicks first and will execute all SIX kicks in order. Their opponent will defend all six kicks in order. Then switch over, ie the other person attacks. Continue until your instructor calls time. During class, shin pads must be used for this drill. There should be no head contact for this drill or the basic kick defence drill. Instructors can add punch / kick counters however that is not a grading requirement. The Basic Kick Defence drill is a better choice for those who are only just beginning to learn kick defences.
