Records could only hold around 5 minutes in those days, pieces were often played faster than intended to fit on one side, either that or split in pieces.
As I only know it from this Ysaye recording..the speed doesn't bother me at all.. sounds normal ;-)

Joachim did not leave us recordings as polished and full of verve as this. Why not? Did Ysaye really write over a 600 pieces. I'm a pianist. His sonatas have yet to reach me. I didn't know he also conducted. Great man.Capable of anything.

What is the piece he is playing in second half of the recording?
-
Ysaye was a fine conductor too. His records with the Cincinnati SO (Columbia, circa 1920) are among the most successful orchestral recordings of the acoustic period, with (as one might expect) a real warmth in the string tone.
-
wow his trills are amazing.
-
He iz amazing. And now he has a second life. Edward Grach and his pupils now plais Wienyawsky ? and it" exellent.I like very much Yakub Unec playing Wienyawsky, And Lev Solodovnikov is very interesting in Wienyawski.

One hundred years later classical music badly needs supreme masters like Ysaye and geniuses like Wieniawski. Entire generatios of violinists have made their careers and fortunes upon his compositions. If he lived to make 0.1% of profit on royalties Wieniawski would be a billionaire today

Ysaye whistles on the violin...

Invisible technique, supreme artistry.
Awesome!! Thank you.

first it is pas de basque - like then the ordinary"run"...
Boy, the sonority of his Guarnerius comes through clearly from a recording almost a century old!

Yeah. In fact, I think the purpose of this recording was to show off the sound of two Guarnerius'. How's that for a demo tape!
