This is an early shoot made for a cable series I co-produced for local cable with Craig Byrd. The show was called "The Screening Room" and we had a lot of fun making the show. The show started out as a movie review show but we began adding behind the scenes interviews with filmmakers and actors. This is an interview with director Frank Oz regarding the making of his film, "The Muppets Take Manhattan." The interview was taped in Los Angeles in 1984.

  • Legend is an understatement for Frank Oz. They have to make up a word just for him and that still wouldnt be good enough.

  • As a performer/puppeteer in New York, this is incredibly interesting! Thanks for sharing this!

  • doing the Muppets must have been insanely hard, especially in the beginning...their hard work paid off.

Since you mentioned Egon, here's some trivia from 1984. When Frank Oz was directing and filming The Muppets Take Manhattan, another movie was being filmed in New York City at the very same time, which became a big 80s franchise. It was Ghostbusters. During that time, Frank made his acquaintances with the Ghostbusters cast, and got to work with Rick Moranis and Bill Murray in his two following films he directed; The Little Shop of Horrors, in 1986, and What About Bob?, in 1991.

  • does anyone think Egon from ghostbusters sort of sounds like this guy?

  • Wow, what a treasure! Did that local cable series film those behind the scenes sequences too, or did you grab them from someone else and got permission to use them?

  • like if your desperate to see muppet take manhatten now!

  • amazing amazing amazing post. I had to re-watch the filming of the "Muppet Babies" scene. Thanks for hanging on to this one for 26 years,
