It was rainy out and I wanted to design another plane, but this one would be a more conventional design. No plans, just build as it comes to me. The only requirements were that it would use a KF wing and an arrow boom fuselage while maintaining a "safe" prop location.
Wing: 46 inches span, 8 inch to 5 inch sweep, 40% KF step. It is a single piece cut on the fold in the PBIII, with the forward edge folded over. I taped the LE before folding, and it made a beautiful airfoil without tearing the foam.. Great way to make a wing. Arrow shaft carbon fiber bracing on the back edge of the KF step. Very small amount of dihedral. Probably 1/4" each tip.
Channels: Aileron (push/pull), Elevator(pull/pull), Throttle
Motor: GH2212-10 Speed 400 / 480 Brushless Outrunner Motor
Speed Controller (ESC): GraysonHobby 20Amp ESC
Prop: 8x4e
Battery: 3s 1000 Mah
AUW: Unknown... I can see I need to buy a little scale. At least it will be useful for others things, too.
Flight Report:
Definitely happy with the performance. Take it high up, cut the power and it floats around nicely. Or, kick up the throttle and as far as I can tell it has unlimited vertical. No problems flying inverted or other simple aerobatics.
Here is a video of the maiden. It was dead calm tonight, perfect for a maiden (I wish the new chicken was ready!) Not much to see as I wanted to keep it three mistakes high on the first short flight. Also, the camerawoman was having some issues.
No, I didn't hit the pool, it was a perfect landing! The filmer just lost sight of it when it hit the horizon. (I thought she was standing on the deck!)
