This is "Bavarian Bush Flying". Sonnen is one of the highest elevation field in Germany, with a small "mountain" runway with a crazy uphill gradient of more than 5%. Great fun!

  • Nice stall on the first takeoff. That actually happened to me once. My instructor and I (in our Cessna 172) had landed and we were going to taxi back and takeoff again. I completely forgot the trim. The aircraft was pitching up so quickly on takeoff, I thoigh I would have scraped the tail. Luckily my 5 years of Flight Simulator experience kicked in (yes, it does help) and I knew what to do (this was my 2nd real flight). My instructor said I was the smoothest he's seen for a second timer.

  • It actually was not really a stall. On the Diamonds, the stall warning is set so far above the stall speed, that it usually beeps at rotation speed. If you have the chance, try a flight in a DA-20 yourself, you'll like it.

  • @flyda40 i flew in one and loved it and the stall horn always exclaimed on t/o

  • I know it wasn't an actual stall, as I know the warning goes off before you actually stall. But is it really set farther above the stall then most aircraft? I guess that would explain why most landings in the Katana have the stall warning going for like 10 seconds before touchdown. I would love to try the Katana, but my airport I fly out of has really old aircraft (except the ones people own). The newest single engine one you can rent is a 172 from the 70's (model 172N I think).

  • I love this video, thanks.

A tricky airfield that I would love to fly into. I was holding my shoulders in going between those trees.

I also fly the DV20; It's a lovely aircraft to fly.

  • I flew over EDPS once, and it looked pretty tricky even when overhead. Looking at this video, approach RWY 20 looks even more exciting than I would expect, it feels like one has to climb in order to get to the threshold :) Well done!

Another 'tricky' airfield of that type in Germany is EDFO Michelstadt near Frankfurt, also highly recommended.
