I just begin to knit, and I don't really sure that I can do it or love it. So I decided to make my own knitting needles from wood. They are totally wonderful to work with. I love them so much,my cool needles!!!!
are those dowels ..because i got some various sizes and because i didnot treat them they are just falling apart ..what do i need to keep them looking like needles..
If you want to use two of these as straight needles, just loop a rubber band around one end of each until it is all used up.
Also, if you find you just have to knit something but find yourself withoug knitting needles, use pencils! Knit with string, twine, etc. Use rubber bands as above for the ends. Cover the lead with fingernail polish or something else that is handy.

Great! I had read about how to do this, but watching you do it is much more helpful.

I used a pair of chopsticks, a shapener, and a nail file (cheap one). It turned out fine, but I wished is was better.
