  • Notice how when Marlo gets fired up they dim the background noise and chatter. This heightens the tension of the scene in a very subtle yet effective way. In any other crime show or movie they would use dramatic music in this scene so you know something important is happening. The Wire respects its audience too much to hit it over the head with cheesy melodrama.

  • ultimately omar got the last laugh, even though kenard put a bullet through his dome. He got at marlo's reputation, which mattered most to him, told every nigga he thought he was a punk and not man enough to come down to the street. Omar dead but the legend live on. demonstrated in numerous scenes of the corner boys telling stories like how they thought it took 10 niggas with ak's to kill omar. marlo still alive but his rep is tarnished and he look like a bitch. • @nbaghst So explain the look he gave Monk in jail then?

  • @MsTreynatra They didn't tell Marlo because it was Chris' own personal mission to get Omar. That's why he looks so down -rodden when Marlo tells him Omar is dead. Recall the scene after Marlo made the deal with the Greek's and he's happy to be wearing the crown. Chris states that Marlo made his move, now it's time for him to make his. He probably didn't want Marlo involved, because it'd take it out of his hands...

  • @nbaghst Barksdale pretty much Barksdale was done for after Avon got out...Marlo pretty much was taking over then but I'm sure there are many reasons people can come up with as to why Marlo didn't find out but that was just mine...I mean they tell Marlo everything else why not this?

  • @MsTreynatra Barksdale didn't fall until 2 seasons after those guys were gone. Slim took the role as enforcer. Barksdale failed because it's two leaders were taking the organization in a different direction. But you're absolutely right, the entire show, all of the institutions shown were cycles. The people at the very very top, stayed in power (Greeks, Police Chief, and Mayor), and a handful made it out (Bubs, Cutty, Namond, Colvin), but most get used and discarded...

  • @nbaghst Barksdale carried on???? I guess that's how Stansfield came up to power...I digress...anyway...the crew would have folded because at the end of the series we see that Marlo has lost the one thing he cared about...his street cred...yes Omar was dead but he ruined Marlo's street cred nobody cared about them anymore which is why the boy pulled out the gun on Marlo at the end...just as Avon was once king and went down, Marlo rose up and went down, The Wire was a cycle

  • @MsTreynatra Think about it this way...Chris and Snoop replaceable to the operation. Had the crew got out of jail after Mike shot Snoop, would the organization have folded? No. Chris was certainly very valuable to Marlo, and had a reputation himself, but had Chris died at some point in the series the Stanfield organization would have been OK. The same way the Barksdales carried on after Wee-bey/Bird got locked up.

Remember Chris wasn't even introduced until 4 episodes after Marlo.

  • What was his empire built on then? What were they ultimately arrested for? The murders committed by Snoop & Chris. Think about it, do you think people really would have feared Marlo had he had O-Dog and Monk as muscle? No, even Michael didn't like what the Stansfield Crew had going on, if Marlo's empire was built I wouldn't say the right way but moreso the way Avon built his, then at the end of the series then maybe he would be talked about on the street corner instead of Omar

  • @MsTreynatra @TheMisterthunder I slightly disagree. Marlo's whole empire wasn't built behind the fear of Chris and Snoop. There's a reason that those two took orders from Marlo. None of the bosses (except Marlo) got their hands dirty committing murders themselves, because when you're at the top you're not supposed to be the guy out on the street.

Chris' faces were very expressive in those scenes because he wanted to be the one that got Omar. Parallel to Marlo's quests for the throne.

  • @TheMisterthunder Exactly, no one was really scared of Marlo...you wouldn't mess with Marlo due to Chris and Snoop so I think they were the ones people feared and yes Bodie was one of my favorite characters but as Barksdale Crew was basically non-existent Bodie was pretty much a dead man walking
