The Stygian Abyss and the ending of Ultima IV (4).

Played with XU4 in Windows XP, cheat mode enabled. The cheat mode allows one to press ESC to leave dungeon rooms, making it possible to cruise through the Abyss.

  • I've just finished Ultima 4th on my original C64, time to start 5th part :)

  • This is just epic.

  • OMG, this brings back so many memories. This defines the word nostalgia. Thanks for putting this up

  • INFINITY ! Dammit ! Now I know ! 26 years later....heheh !

    Summer of '85... good times.

  • The ending looks really infuriating. I think I actually managed to finish it, as a remember seeing these screens before.

  • Wow, what most of you said here rings true with me. Spot on! My buddy and I played this in Jr Hi and HS for a few years to finally beat it. The haunting music (still great to this day) and timeless terms like "Stygian Abyss" bring back great memories. I kind of like the "primitive" graphics (not primitive for the late-80's though!) as they allowed the imagination to really do its thing.

  • I played this game for almost 2 years, to finally finish it. Seriously great memories! Amazing how much imagination was required on the users part, to be immersed in this world. Actually just threw away the cloth map, 2 years ago, still hanging on the wall of my room at my parents house, after they passed away, and sold the house. :-(

  • @dorianstarbuck the series of ultima is its only challenge for the spot of best

  • I'm in agreement with many of the posters here - U4 was one of the gaming highlights of my life. Funny thing is that when I got it, the first thing I did was throw the box, manuals and map under my bed and forget about them. So, for me the first weeks in the game were spent exploring this vast land, slowly uncovering strange quests. Then, I finally met Hawkwind, and after a few choice words, I had to dig out the manual to figure out what the heck I was supposed to be doing.

  • I miss this game - with the sound - I played this for about a year straight. Solved it a few times. What a great memory. Ultima - Pegean brought it all together in 3d.
