The CATECHISM makes no reference to suffering in purgatory, it speaks of a purifying fire, so a sense a holy fire, which may or may not be the same as fire on earth. We can only speculate the way in which we are cleansed in purgatory as the Church has made no formal stance. Hell in the catechism is refered to as suffering the punishments of eternal fire in dying in a state of mortal sin. One is for cleansing and the other for punishment.

R U serious? What does this ridiculous teaching actually say about God -- that is, the God you believe in.
There is but one reason for making it into the Kingdom, and that is you have received the Person of Jesus Christ, as Savior and Lord, Who has given unto the believer His divine nature, which is the giving of His Holy Spirit, that he or she will overcome sin completely, and throughout life, receive the character of Christ!
If you love Christ, walk "in Him," unto eternal life.

My mistake, that last sentence was supposed to say, "then what is 'the world to come' where sins can be forgiven?"

Matthew 12:32 - And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. (KJV translation, not a Catholic translation)
As stated in Rev 21:27, nothing unclean is in Heaven so nothing need be forgiven because there is no sin in Heaven. So if life on earth is "this world," then what is "the world to come" where this sin can be forgiven?

Why don't they ask themsleves instead, and tell us Catholics, where in the Bible are we told that, unless it is clearly written in there, it cannot be true?
