This is my third lesson is style transformation, using the chorus of Nickelback's "Rock Star."

Nothing like updating a Nickelback song with Barbershop harmonies. Or, perhaps it's downdating?

Oh, and apparently the final portion got played as a "remix" on BBC Radio 1 in the UK - thanks to gepabow for the link:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00cj9r3 (only available until 24 July).

at about 2 hours 42 minutes, AND at 2 hours 50 miuntes. Twice....

  • .... this kind of puts me at a loss for words... I'm thinking you should probably not do this again..... if you'd like to see what a barbershop quartet really should sound like please search Crossroads quartet or vocal Spectrum, or Max Q or several others......you will not see "arm swingys" I'm not really sure what the words "barbershop star" have to do with that at all.. you should delete this re record it with the actual words then it might be somewhat cool.

  • Hmmm. So,

1.) The barbershop chorus I've been attending their rehearsals uses arm motions a LOT.

2.) "Barbershop star" is substituting the word "Barbershop" for "rock"

3.) I have a full version of this, along with many other barbershop/a cappella stuff. Since this video was made over a year ago, I've heard a lot more barbershop music and written things more in the idiom (though none are SPEBSQA contest rules).

    Thanks for the comment!

  • won't really sound barbershop from what i hear. More like jazz or jazzy pop vocal style. I think you misinterpret barbershop for all the music made by quartet of men, while barbershop is only and ultimately 1 precise style of vocal quartet music between many. Like, by example, the song don't worry, be happy, (is a vocal only song) But its not barbershop. You got a very good ear though! I can tell it by the way you always stay on the right key all video long.

  • @jimlapbap

I think that Zmeister hasn't got a clue. I have listened to Barbershop all my life. It is indeed very animated and swing your arms all you want! I enjoyed the video very much!

  • Do your thing man.I think this is cool

  • I don't see how anybody could post a negative comment to this. Nice work!

  • how do you get your voice in the right key and pitch? with software?

  • Not to knock this, or you -- because I like and respect you and your vid -- but is "arm-swingy" to be taken to mean "flaming"? xD

  • this guy is a genius!!!! love you man :)

  • Your a fucking dickhead..No joke, im gonna stick my dick so far up your mum that she's gonna have her period out her mouth.

  • that was so arm swingy.
