  • Hey that sounds good! This guitar is a Richie Kotzen's signature???

  • Yes.

  • As played by Pual Gilbert. ;) Kotzen was Mr.Big's second guitar player.

  • I Know this... but Paul Gilbert played it using Tapping technique, and i've played it without Tapping, as Richie Kotzen Played it, so that's why i've said "as played by Richie Kotzen".

  • Ooops, i've seen your own answer to your comment, saying you should have seen the vid before commenting, and trying to erase my answer, i've made a mistake, erasing yours.

    Very sory ;-))

I have played it like it was played by Richie Kotzen, not like played by Paul Gilbert using tapping technique, so, sorry to tell you it's not wrong...

  • ahhhh personally i like the tapping version better though..... it has a more liquid feel....LOL....... thanks for showing though

  • The problem with Richie Kotzen's version is that some notes get 'muffled' when the fingers jump from one string to the next (his version uses 4 strings). Also, the left hand obviously does more work than necessary in an effort to make the notes fluid.

Advantages of tapping with the right hand:

    - uses only 3 strings and takes advantage of open strings/notes for the bottom 2 strings

    - less work for left hand

    - note continuity / fluidity / sustain. it also sounds better.

  • Very difficult way to play that lick. Its more fluid when you use both hands :)

  • @zaggazoom Need to say no more.

  • Cool I did'nt know that this could be played without tapping thanks for opening my eye's

  • First, I must admit I don't know how the Richie Kotzen version differs from Paul Gilbert's version. From previous comments on this video I understand Paul uses tapping and Richie not.

However, the first part of the lick you play differs from what Paul is playing and isn't played very smoothly. Even without tapping this could/should be done better. Of course this may be an exact copy of Richie's version, but then I must admit I like Paul's version way better.

  • what the hell is the point of playing the same sounding lick, but harder to finger and not smooth at all?

  • i love telecasters :D

  • Paul Gilbert

  • not clean
