This is Mandarin, and the difference is that Mandarin is the national language.
Cantonese is actually only used in the South, South-East, GuangZhou Region. (Dialect)

@xtruma cantonese has more accent (if you will). someone correct me, but it sounds more mandarin. and the setting of the film was during the fall of the tang dynasty- if i remember correctly. I wouldn't know what "dialect" they spoke since geography of dynasty to dynasty varied so much. :)

Love this movie. One of my favorites of Asian Cinema. Up there with Crouching Tiger, The Promise and Hero.
This is Mandarin, yes? Or is it Cantonese? I can't recall the difference between them.

i know right...one of the most epic asian movies ive seen so far..they rteally know how to make visual and audio masterpieces..btw, ihav eno idea what is the difference between the two dialects...sorry..i wish i could but no..and thanks for the comment...
