Metro Radio, was launched in July, 1974 and is the Independent Local Radio station for the Tyne/Wear area. Featured in this video is a selection of jingle packs used on the station in the mid-1970s from companies such as EMIson, PAMS and YAMCO.

The PAMS of Dallas package 'The North East Sound', was ordered by the station's Programme Controller in late 1974 when the station was rebranded. The package was derived from a pack for 13KOL in Seattle.

The EMIson 'North East Sound' package from 1977 contains re-sings of Beacon Radio 303's 'Sunshine Sound' Package used when this station went on air in April 1976.

  • Glad they brought back some memories geordiejohnson. I'm uploading new stuff all of the time... on the channel at the moment is some classic James Whale "Night Owls/Sounds in the Night" from 75 and 76. You may well find this of interest!!!

  • Thumbs up from me for this montage

  • @radiodarkhorse

  • This is quite an odd collection and sounds more like Len Groat's cart wall (and he did play a lot of jingles!) than the full station sound. There are a few missing especially from the very early days including my show jingles. Thanks for doing this though and it was amusing to hear them again. Somewhere I must have them all I guess on quarter inch as no one else wanted to keep them.

  • god i remember most of these from my childhood, in the late 70's poss early 80's i used to tune in for the club/disco chart show, i couldnt go clubbing till i'd heard what was the club sound No1 in the NE, was it with dave burrows?? i'll stand corrected on the presenter, i thought it was superb especially james wales show that was brilliant

  • They don't make 'em like that any more! Listening to these jingles brought back lots of memories from my childhood. A superb collection, thanks!
